Albert Schweitzer was a medical doctor who employed humor not only to combat depression but also to keep him from falling into a state of helplessness.

Schweitzer found his use of humor helped him, as well as, those around him. He soon began to realize humor was a vital nourishment for the whole hospital community.

Empirical studies have shown humor and hearty laughter may affect every system of the body. Humor is important in resolving short term physical and mental illnesses.
