Devotional Thoughts

Lowly peoples' lives can be of great consequence.

The apostle Paul wrote, "God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise." Paul was describing Jesus, who lived a humble life and died a terrible death.

So how are the apostle Paul and Van Gogh alike?

Both Paul and Van Gogh knew that the lives of lowly persons can have great consequence.

Artist Vincent van Gogh wrote: "I have a terrible need of — shall I say the word — religion. What am I in the eyes of most people — a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person, somebody who has no position in society and will never have; in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then — I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart."

Recognize something great in the people you meet today. God has made each of us unique and special.
