Devotional Thoughts

Give me your tired, your poor.

These are the words from the first line of a poem by Emma Lazarus (1849 to 1887) inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty, which was erected in 1886 in New York Harbor. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France. Both the poem by Emma Lazarus and the statue of Liberty pay tribute to the United States as the haven for the oppressed. Let us not forget the foundations which made this great nation, freedom from oppression of all kinds. Including freedom from religious oppression.
