Paoli United Methodist Church Worship Services:
Everyone is invited to share some fellowship in our Fellowship Hall before the Bible study classes begin. Nursery services are available during both the Bible study classes and the worship service. Our Sunday worship services are:
Early Worship | 8:15 AM |
This is a small informal service for people who like to start their day early. This service is about 35–40 minutes long.
Sunday school and Bible study | 9:00 AM |
Second Worship | 10:15 AM |
This is a multi-generational service. It includes a children's story time or what we call A Time with Young Disciples.
Youth Fellowship | 6:00 PM |
A typical 10:15 service opens with the musical prelude as acolytes bring in the light of Christ by lighting the candles.
A liturgist leads the people in the call to worship,
a hymn is sung, and a prayer in unison.
Then, unless it's the first week of the month and
therefore Communion Sunday,
there is a children's story time.
It's what we call A Time with Young Disciples.
Presenters are:
Second week: Terry & Aaron Hannon
Third week: Howard Detweiler
Fourth week: Casey Brewster
Fifth week: Pastor LaMont
The service then continues with further music, prayer, reading of scripture and a sermon from the pastor. Our adult choir sings 45 out of 52 Sundays a year.
Communion is the first Sunday of each month.
The United Methodist Church on CommunionThe United Methodist Church believes that the table of Holy Communion is Christ's table, not the table of The United Methodist Church or of the local congregation. The table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love and to lead a new life of peace and love, as the invitation to the table says.
Our Book of Worship says, "All who intend to lead a Christian life, together with their children, are invited to receive the bread and cup. We have no tradition of refusing any who present themselves desiring to receive."
A "mission moment" is presented on the fourth Sunday of each month.
Special events are celebrated, as when Darlene McBride retired.
The choir performs an annual Christmas cantata, as well as special cantatas throughout the year.
There are special services throughout the year. Here, Pastor LaMont Bonath is observing All Saints' Day during Sunday morning worship, honoring the members who died during the past year.
For each one, he read their name, lit a candle, and sounded a bell, holding the bell until the sound faded.
The regular Sunday morning worship service then concludes with a hymn and a musical postlude. Then it is time to take the light of Christ out into the world.
Our pastor delivers a short message each morning at 7:11 AM during Faith Break on Paoli's WUME 95.3 FM. Q-100 in French Lick, 100.1 FM, carries our pastor's messages occasionally but not on a regular schedule.
